When juveniles are incarcerated, it often times translates to a pause in their education and overtime, their minds are dulled by the lack of quality education and access to enlightening books that even after release, proper re-integration becomes a struggle as we all know that education brings light to the soul of a man.
This challenge is one that the Bonafide Advocator Initiative has identified overtime and tried to address with mentorship, enlightenment sessions and outreaches and we are pleased to announce that we have attained a giant stride in addressing the challenges of the educational welfare of Incarcerated Juveniles aimed at Revamping and restructuring the learning environments and systems provided in correctional centers.
We are designing quality learning models for the centers by providing standard learning materials, such as textbooks aligned with the current learning curriculum and also beginner-friendly novels and picture books containing stories that contain messages of hope and rehabilitation. We would also follow up their progress through school sponsorships, educational tools and mentorship.
On Saturday, 26th July, 2025, a team from BOFAI visited the Special Correctional center for Boys, Oregun, Lagos State to conduct an assessment of the library and officially kick off the “Revive Libraries Initiative.” This visit served as an opportunity to evaluate the current educational realities within the facility and make projections on needed areas of adjustments.
During the visit, we made several observations such as the fact that the library was in an abandoned state with no structure or supervision and several plans have been put in place to ensure a revamping of the library by doing a thorough clean-up, hiring a librarian and having constant monitoring and evaluation.
The Bonafide Advocator Initiative is committed to ensuring that Incarcerated Juveniles also have a chance at standard and quality education and the “Revive Libraries Initiative” is a step in the right direction.
